Like any new experience, it is very exciting and also a little nerve-racking to join the team at Intrigue as an intern. There is a lot of information and opportunities being given to you all at once and it can be overwhelming, so here’s a few tips on how to thrive as an intern!
1. Ask Lots of Questions.
There is a ton of information given when you first start your internship — it can be a little overwhelming to take it all in at once. I felt like I needed to know everything right away and I didn’t want to appear unsure.
I quickly learned that being unsure is an important part of the learning process and asking questions is the best way to navigate through the first few weeks of the internship. The team is very communicative and encouraging, and they are happy to help you thrive in any way they can. The whole idea of this internship is for you to learn, so the best way to do that is to take initiative and ask questions!
2. Get Involved
I have found that the best way to find your footing as an intern is to get involved as much as you can. There are lots of opportunities to get to know the team, as well as networking events and community involvement. These are great methods to connect with others, and they will help you thrive in your internship and achieve personal growth.
3. Be Aware of Your Learning Curve
The learning curve is something that everyone experiences when they begin a new job, project, hobby etc. They start out very excited and confident in their abilities to perform the task(s) at hand, then reach a point of difficulty and stress where they feel that they cannot adequately complete it, finally obtaining confidence in themselves to perform the task after persevering through the difficult point. It’s not an easy thing to go through, but it happens to everyone at some point. Being aware of this will help you work through your learning curve more successfully.
4. Apply What you Learn to Your Personal Growth.
Something I found to be really surprising and rewarding was the personal growth that I have achieved so far in this internship. You will learn many skills that you can use in your work and apply them to many other aspects of your life. This internship is truly a well-rounded learning opportunity and I encourage you to take in as much knowledge as you possibly can!
5. Enjoy Your Time Here!
Although a little cheesy, the saying “time flies” really applies to this internship. There is so much to learn and so many opportunities that are available to you, the best thing you can do is soak in and enjoy every moment of it. It is a very rewarding experience. You will learn a lot about the field you are working in, the team and how the business works, and also a lot about yourself. Take time to appreciate and enjoy the experience!
