The number of internet marketing acronyms we have to remember is growing, PPC, SEO, SEM, CPC. What is does it all even mean? Ever wonder what SEO your website means? Well, it stands for search engine optimization. It’s the process of gaining natural or unpaid listings in search engines such as Google. But is that even important to you? There are a number of factors that search engines use to rank sites. These factors can be divided into “On the page SEO” and “Off the page SEO”. “On the page SEO” consists of your content, HTML and architecture while “Off the page SEO” is made of links, social and trust. In optimizing a website it’s important to use keywords related to your business. This will help search engines identify what type of your content your website has and if it is relevant to the user.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is the process of gaining traffic from search engines. SEO is a part of SEM, however SEM also encompasses tools such as Google Adwords and pay-per-click advertising through Yahoo and Bing. This can be a great way to gain traffic to websites and social media sites through targeted ads related to your business. SEO can take time for search engines to crawl and rank your website however paid search listings tend to help your natural search listings rank.
