Website Design GoalsOur client, Dirt Cheap, is a Kitchener-Waterloo based company that sells soil, mulch, seed, and aggregate…for cheap. What’s unique about them is that they focus on the needs of the person using the product by offering it in mini-bags that can be placed by their team around customers’ lawns.
I had the task of designing the homepage of the website by using elements from the Artbees theme: ‘The Ken’ and creating a video that would live on the website about the company.While designing the homepage of the website, I kept in mind that I wanted people to actually enjoy working in their garden right from the planning step.
It was important to note the simplicity of Dirt Cheap’s product and how it helped the user do what they enjoy most — spending time in their backyard.
- Colours & imagery that represented the brand and reflected the perfect gardening weather
- Photography of mini bags in garden
- Maintain an aspect ratio of the photo that is short and wide enough to fit information above the fold of the website
Video Production GoalsSimply put, we wanted to highlight why Jon started Dirt Cheap and exactly what makes their products so easy for the end user.
- Interview Jon & Dirt Cheap team to display the team’s genuine character and tell their story
- Film the team’s bagging process & mini-bag delivery to a client’s home
- Capture the team enjoying a barbecue in the client’s backyard
